I assist couples who wish to marry in a civil marriage ceremony as distinct from a religious or church service. Apart from a number of legal requirements under the Commonwealth of Australia Marriage Act 1961, the remainder of the ceremony is in the hands of the couple. They choose the date, the time, and the venue, and whether to include items such as music, readings and rituals. It is my job to explain the legalities, and co-ordinate the ceremony, ensure the required documents are prepared and forwarded to the registering authority after the ceremony. I can provide a portable PA system and, where none is provided, I can take a signing table and 2 signing chairs.
