Bernadette Mether services Mornington Peninsula
Bernadette Mether is a classically trained mezzo-soprano with spinto ability. She enjoys performing in many styles including classical, jazz, folk and music theatre genres. Bernadette Mether graduated from the University of Melbourne, in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts & Diploma in Education majoring in Music & Mathematics. In 1992 she gained a Graduate Diploma in Special Education from Deakin University . Musical qualifications include: 7th Grade Theory of Music;6th Grade Classical Guitar and the AMusA and LMusA in singing from the Australian Music Examinations Board as well as the ATCL (Recital) and LTCL Recital in singing from Trinity College, London. She is a Professional member of the Victorian Music Teachers Association and has completed the Orff Schulwerk Level 1 course and Levels 1 & 2 in the Estill Voice Training System. Since 1986, she has tutored primary & secondary students in the areas of Maths, Music & English as well taught singing, theory & guitar in her private studio. Bernadette has taught in Tasmania, Melbourne, & on the Gold Coast. Her students have entered both classical and CPM AMEB, ANZCA and VCE exams in classical guitar and voice with great success . She has also adjudicated the Pheonix Eisteddfod. She has performed in amateur theatre productions of The Other Mary, Musicals On Show, Oklahoma and Iolanthe with PLOS, Devonport Choral Society and Holy Family Players. For many years she has been church cantor at churches both interstate and on the peninsula, performed in many charity concerts and solo recitals and provided the music for weddings and funerals. Since 2004 Bernadette has musically directed local amateur theatre productions of The Mikado, Oliver and Kiss Me Kate, Christmas in the Outback and Scrooge- the Stingiest Man in Town. Bernadette has organised and performed in a number of charity concerts including Transform Their World benefit concert for Moira Kelly’s Children First Foundation and Songs in the Arbour benefit concert series for the Fred Hollows Foundation. Bernadette founded and directed the vocal ensembles: The Giovane Voce Choir, The Bees Knees, Con Brio and Waxing Lyrical . Most recently, she has performed Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben and Bach and Beyond- Journey through Space and Time with pianist Pamela Christie, De Falla's 7 Popular Spanish Songs with classical guitarist, Tania Ravbar and Elgar’s Sea Pictures with the Maroondah Symphony Orchestra. Currently, she regularly performs jazz standards with Pamela Christie at Mornington's Leaf and Bean Cafe as well as she teaches singing, guitar and theory at her Mornington studio and Kilbreda College. She has provided the music for many wedding ceremonies and concerts either accompanying herself on guitar or using professional backing tracks. She also has affiliations with other professional musicians should you wish to have an "all live" performance.
