Wedding News > Getting your wedding memories right

8 May 2008

Wedding planning is much like a well-staged play in that every element must be orchestrated to perfection if you are to capture exactly the mood and memories that you desire. Some people prefer a casual style to their wedding, others want perfection and for everything to be exactly as they imagined. Either way, the right service providers are necessary to avoid things going awry, and can help you to achieve whatever effect you desire.

Wedding planner

If you've decided you would like to utilise a wedding planner, then be aware that they will plan based on a realistic idea of what you can afford and will definitely make suggestions. They are professionals devoted to a very specialised industry while you are a customer who likely has little experience in organising an event of this size. Don't take their suggestions and advice on your creative ideas as disrespectful of your wishes, but be sure to talk with a few wedding planners to decide which is most likely to follow your dreams to the letter.

Wedding photographer

For those who wish to plan their own wedding, specific service providers will need to be contacted, so you will need to be aware of what to look for in businesses such as wedding photographers. Do your best not to fall into the trap of having one of your relatives do the wedding photography, as even if they are a professional photographer, they will be unlikely to have the same focus as a wedding photographer you hire. Also, when choosing a business, be sure to ask about the back-up arrangements they have. It would be terrible if you went with a wedding photographer with minimal back-up capability and a disaster saw your wedding snaps lost forever. Remember to inquire about the wedding albums the service offers, as you will want an album that is special to you and your partner.

Wedding video

Again, try to avoid using a relative or guest, as they will not dedicate the sort of time and effort that a professional hired cameraperson should. Wedding video services should be scrutinised much like a wedding photography service, but you will also want to look into editing options and DVD authoring. Basic services are all most people will want, but if you can afford the extra expense, you will be left with the best record of your memories you could wish for.

Reception venue

Not every wedding reception venue is the same in what it will allow you to do within a particular budget. For instance, a large and opulent hall would be difficult to decorate in a unique style in a short period of time. Meeting with venue operators to discuss what you would like to achieve will allow you to plan for what is realistic given the space you have to use. Long standing popular wedding reception venues will probably be the least flexible, but if you've heard of a good place that has only recently become well-known, they may still be likely to accommodate unique wedding reception ideas.
