All your Wedding needs
6 May 2008
Many wedding traditions around the world are not as old as you may think. The idea of a lavish wedding ceremony and reception as a commonly practiced ritual is especially new, as before the establishment of the modern middle class it was completely unaffordable by any except the wealthiest. Ostentatious wedding rings are also quite recent, as simple bans have usually been the norm in older traditions. Given that much of what is considered traditional has hardly been practiced for more than a century, why should you worry about sticking to tradition in your own wedding planning?
There are many ways you could make your wedding unique and special. For instance, just because you can afford a large wedding does not mean you must hold one. You could spend the money on a smaller wedding at your honeymoon destination and help a small number of guests in the costs to attend. There's also the issue of the practicality of traditional wedding attire in an Australian summer, so you may want to experiment with wedding dresses or wedding fashion that is more suited to the climate.
Doing something new and bold for your wedding creates the traditions of tomorrow, and makes your special day far more personal than the average couple's wedding.
